The Benefits of African Mango Extract
African Mango Extract is derived from the seeds of the fleshy West African fruit Irvingia Gabonesis. The fruit is being praised for its ability to help reduce body fat, weight, and even cholesterol and leptin levels in overweight subjects, according to a recent study published in the journal Lipids in Health and Disease.
According to a study conducted by Julius Oben Ph.D., an associate professor of nutritional biochemistry at the University of Yaounde in Cameroon, African Mango was the stable for many tribes in Cameroon and Nigeria. The one characteristic of these tribes is their slim build and low incidence of cardiovascular disease.
African Mango seeds are filled with iron, B vitamins, calcium, riboflavin, and healthy fatty acids.
By turning IG seeds into an extract, they become a supplement.
In 2005, BioMed Central studied the effects of IG seeds on 40 obese patients. Twenty-eight patients received IG supplements 3 times per day while the others received a placebo. After one month, the group that consumed the supplement lost an average of 5.26 lbs. while the other group lost an average of 1.32 lbs.
In 2008, another study by BioMed Central examined the effect of African Mango supplements on 72 obese or overweight patients. The ten-week research study targeted body weight, fat, waist size, cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose levels, and found significant differences in all areas of health.
The difference started to show in week four and continued for the rest of the study.
Along with weight-loss, the 2008 study showed patients taking African Mango Extract had lower cholesterol levels of more than 44%, while the placebo group had no significant signs of lowered cholesterol. Many researchers believe the high fiber found in the supplement contributes to lowering cholesterol.
In March 2009, a study published in Lipids in Health and Disease on 102 participants, both healthy and overweight, those receiving 150 mg of African Mango Extract twice per day showed a positive impact on blood glucose levels compared to the placebo.
With no adverse side effects reported, African Mango Extract seems worthy of all the Hype.
